Video Counselling
Rainstorm Counselling & Consulting uses a platform called OWL Practice (based in Canada) to offer video counselling. OWL Practice works hard to make sure it complies with all provincial and federal Canadian privacy laws. Click here for the client guide to logging on to your video session. Just log on to the client portal, click the “Join” button, and follow the prompts!
Similar to telephone counselling, please make sure that you have access to a quiet, private space with no distractions. Being interrupted by others often interferes with people’s ability to open up in a session. It can also be distracting and compromise your confidentiality. Also similar to over the phone, technological difficulties can get in the way. Poor voice or picture quality can impact your experience negatively.
A headset with a microphone is strongly suggested, in order for us to hear each other better. Even a cheap pair of earbuds with a microphone works well. This also can help with confidentiality if there are other people in the next room. Please be aware that setting up a video counselling session is like inviting me into your home. Be aware of lighting issues and what I can see behind you.
Telephone Counselling
Counselling by phone can serve as an easier choice for people who cannot use the computer for this purpose. Perhaps they are not comfortable with, or don’t have access to, computers or other technologies. Check out this two and half minute video showing an accessible telephone counselling program, designed for stressed and busy parents who have children with mild to moderate mental health and behavioural challenges.
For both video and phone sessions, payment can be etransferred as soon as the session is scheduled. After the fee is paid, the client is responsible for calling Rainstorm Counselling & Consulting (RSCC) at the scheduled time, and it is treated just like a regular counselling session.
Phone counselling works best with land-lines or with cell phones where there is good reception. Internet phone service (VoIP), dropped calls, poor voice quality or reception that cuts in and out will obviously have a negative effect on your counselling experience.
To maximize your phone counselling experience, please ensure that you place yourself in a quiet, private space with no distractions. Being interrupted by others often interferes with people’s ability to open up in a session. It can also be distracting and compromise your confidentiality. Avoiding computer use and turning off any other devices also ensures you get the most out of telephone counselling.
